The world's tallest woman Yao Defen died last month at her home in Shucheng County, east China's Anhui Province, at the age of 39.

Yao, 233.3 centimeters tall, is said to have suffered from gigantism, with a tumor on her pituitary gland disrupting her levels of growth hormone. 

Yao was a keen basketball player in her youth. She was 200 centimeters tall by the age of 15.

She was 10 centimeters taller than Yao Ming, a retired Chinese professional basketball player who last played for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
