The 7th ceremony in honor of the legendary Yellow Emperor (Huangdi) is set to kick off in Henan province's Xinzheng city on April 12, 2013, the third day of the lunar March.

About 20,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony, which will begin at around 9:50 a.m. that day, said Ding Shixian, the Standing Deputy Director of the Yellow Emperor Honoring Ceremony, at a press conference held in Beijing on Feb. 27.

Celebrities will also attend the ceremony, themed as "homology with the roots and ancestors in peace and harmony".

An evening gala, Central China Culture Week, the 7th International Forum of Yellow Emperor Culture, and a series of trade affairs will also be organized to make the event more memorable.

A special website will be launched for overseas Chinese who still wish to be part of the ceremony, Ding added.

March 3 marks the day the Yellow Emperor united all Chinese tribes 5,000 years ago. Xinzheng is the Yellow Emperor's birthplace and the capital of his Huaxia Empire, according to folklore.

The Yellow Emperor is regarded as a common ancestor for all Chinese people around the world. Archaeologists said that activities honoring the Yellow Emperor date back to the ancient Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) in Chinese history.
