Businesses and members of the public have come to the aid of a teenager who suffered 95 percent burns saving her mother from a fire.

Yan Qianyu, 13, became the focus of public attention after her act of heroism in Dengzhou, Henan Province, last month.

Now donations are flooding in to help pay for medical treatment for her terrible injuries.

Henan real estate company Tianlun is donating 100,000 yuan (US$16120) while a local charity organization has contributed 10,000 yuan.

The teenager saw smoke rising from her parents' room when her sick mother was asleep on March 17.

When she rushed into the room to save her mother, the fire ignited gasoline, leaving Qianyu with 95 percent burns.

The girl's mother, 45-year-old Liu Yujiu, escaped with just burns to her feet.

She has said she will donate her skin to help her daughter.

When Qianyu awoke after her ordeal, the first thing she asked was how her parents were, and said she wanted to take care of them.

Liu is understandably distraught over her daughter's injuries.

"It was to save my life that my daughter got burned. I'm so sorry for her," she said.

The child's doctor, Sun Yufei said the girl suffered extensive burns and lung damage and was in a critical condition.

Web users rallied round after Qianyu's heroism and plight were reported.
