Authorities are investigating allegations that dead piglets were dumped aside a highway linking Shanghai to Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province.

A Xinmin.cn reporter said he did not find any dead pigs after going to the alleged scene of the illegal dumping in Qingpu District along the S32 Expressway. Government officials in Liantang Town, where the alleged dumping occurred, said they also did not find any dead pigs.

Police said they started investigating the case yesterday.

A post on the weibo.com microblogging site yesterday said four dead piglets were dumped aside the highway and a truck with the license plate number Wan N91668 was responsible.

The post said the truck stopped on the S32 Expressway, adding that two people got out and tossed dead pigs onto the side of the highway.

In March, more than 10,000 dead pigs dumped by farmers of other provinces were found in the Huangpu River, especially along the border between Shanghai and Zhejiang Province.
