A convicted rapist working as a security guard for a company in Anhui Province has been arrested in the molestation or rape of more than 10 primary school students.

Some of the girls threatened by the guard, Ji Songgang, were so afraid they kept the crime to themselves for nearly three years.

Ji, 43, a security guard of a boiler factory in the city of Wuhu, attacked the students after offering to walk them home or help them with their homework, prosecutors said. He targeted girls aged seven to 10 who walked to school alone.

Prosecutors said Ji admitted to 10 cases, though he is believed to have attacked dozens of pupils. Evidence is solid enough to confirm five cases, prosecutors said.

Ji had been sentenced to prison for nine years in a rape case in August 1984.

After offering to help the students, Ji would force them to a remote place, an apartment or a public restroom to commit the crime, said the Jinghu District People's Prosecution Service. He covered the mouths of his victims with his hand.

"Ji would threaten the girls not to report the crime to the police, school or family," according to a prosecutor. Ji targeted the students due to their timidity, officials said.

The crimes were discovered and Ji was arrested in May after a victim's parents questioned their daughter about her abnormal emotional state.
