The official has chosen to use the Hongqi H7 sedan as his official vehicle, a move unusual for Chinese diplomats who normally drive foreign cars.

The Hongqi H7 sedan was launched in China on May 30 this year, competing head-to-head with foreign manufacturers such as Audi, and Mercedes in the luxury car market.

China FAW Group Corporation took four years to produce the Hongqi H7, a project costing over 5.2 billion yuan (about 850million US dollars), chinanews.com reports.

Hongqi is China's first domestically produced sedan. The make was the official car for top leaders including Chairman Mao Zedong, and state guests since the 1960s.
