The winner of a 7.05 million yuan (US$1.13 million) lottery failed to show up last night, the deadline to claim the jackpot and the money will be given to Shanghai's social welfare fund.

Under China's lottery management regulations, a prize must be claimed within 60 days after the winning number is drawn.

The Shanghai Welfare Lottery Center said the winning ticket was sold on May 2 at an outlet on Yanji Road M. in Yangpu District. The center opened a 24-hour hotline and asked the winner to call it to claim the money via local media.

It is the first time since 2011 that a winner of more than 5 million yuan prize failed to collect the cash in Shanghai, the center said.

In June 2011, a 10 million yuan lottery winner did not show up and prize went to the social welfare fund. That ticket was believed to have been sold to a man in Jiading District.
