30 medical experts dispatched to quake zone

Thirty medical experts were sent to a quake zone in northwest China's Gansu Province on Monday after an earthquake that has left at least 75 people dead so far.

The experts will be tasked with helping local health departments treat the wounded, prevent possible epidemics and provide mental health assistance, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

A 6.6-magnitude quake jolted Minxianand Zhangxian counties at 7:45 a.m. Monday, killing at least 75 people and injuring more than 600 others.

Ninety-five provincial medical workers were sent to quake-hit areas on Monday morning and health and epidemic prevention teams from nearby counties have been mobilized to provide medical assistance, according to commission.

Hospitals in both counties have received a combined total of 572 quake victims, including 70 in serious condition.

A 5.6-magnitude aftershock jolted the area around 9 a.m. the same day.
