5.1-magnitude quake hits SW China

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted the border area of Rongxian county in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of southwest China's Sichuan Province and Deqin and Xianggelila counties in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province at 4:44 a.m. Wednesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 9 km, was monitored at 28.2 degrees north latitude and 99.3 degrees east longitude, the center said.

No reports of casualties were available by press time.
