Two people have been killed and 17 others injured in an explosion near a school in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday morning.

The Ministry of Public Security have dispatched a work team to look into the fatal blast.

The injured, including 10 students, were all hospitalized and one of them is in critical condition. The rest of the injured are adults who were accompanying the students to school or passing by the site.

The incident took place around 8 am near the entrance to the Balijie Primary School in Guilin, a popular tourist city in Guangxi famous for its karst sceneries.

A body was seen at the site, which has been cordoned by local police, witnesses told Xinhua.

Some witnesses said the explosion was caused by a tricyle.

Police are investigating the cause of blast.
