An international forum on city development, social prosperity and international cooperation between people from all four corners of the globe opened yesterday in Beijing.

Entitled the 2013 Beijing International Forum on People to People Friendship, the event has attracted over 300 guests from 20 countries and more than 80 international organizations.

Li Xiaoqiang, deputy director of the Beijing Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said the forum would aim to learn from each international organization’s experience in urban development and management and discuss culture, education and international communication though non-government dialogue.

The event hopes to improve the practical cooperation between Beijing and other cities across the world, as well as further enhance the already close ties among international organizations and educational, cultural and economic institutes, Li said.

The biennial forum, initiated in 2011, is composed of a plenary session and three parallel panel discussions.
