The freelance photographer who wrongly reported an incident about a Chinese woman extorting a foreigner issued a public apology, Beijing News reported.

On Monday, the photographer posted online eye-catching news of a foreign man holding up a middle-aged woman who fell to the ground and then demanded 1,800 yuan ($296) from him.

However, it was later discovered the foreigner was driving a motorcycle without a license and actually hit the woman.
