First Francois' leaf monkey bred in Yantai

An infant Francois' leaf monkey survived on March 13 after the critical period following its birth in Yantai, Shandong province. The monkey's birth marked the first successful case of breeding a Francois' leaf monkey in the city.

Born on February 19, the baby monkey had been strictly protected from human contact by its mother, preventing the attainment of any further information about the baby besides its appearance.

The Francois' leaf monkey is one of the rarest animal species on the planet and is as cherished in China as the giant panda.
