Rescuers are racing against time as at least four people remained trapped after an apartment building collapsed Friday morning in East China's Zhejiang province.

Firefighters and police arrived immediately and have rescued four people after a five-story, dilapidated building crumbled around 8:45 am in Fenghua city, CCTV reported.

The building has been there for 20 years and houses 15 families.

Sources said residents reported cracks on the wall but their concerns had not been addressed.

There is a dire situation at the scene as no machines can be used, leaving rescuers to pick through the rubble and dust for victims.

City government will hold a news briefing at 1 pm near the scene.

Those who have been rescued are in stable condition.
