A supermarket patron slashed with a knife and two other women held hostage were rescued in Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province by police who took a suspect into custody after a two-hour standoff last night.

A supermarket patron slashed with a knife and two other women held hostage were rescued in Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province by police who took a suspect into custody after a two-hour standoff last night.

The suspect, surnamed Wu, who is from Hubei Province, attacked and cut a woman shopping at the Huarun Wanjia Supermarket at 7:44pm and held two sales clerks hostage, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

The hostages were not injured during the tense standoff at the market, which is on a pedestrian street in the Longhua neighborhood.

The injured woman was sent to a hospital for treatment and is currently listed as stable.

A motive for the attacks has not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
