A new online survey shows most Chinese young people learn about sex on their own and parents readily accept this fact, qq.com reported on Thursday.

The survey was carried out by a qq.com entertainment TV channel among its audience and the users of its website. The questions focused on knowledge of sex, the lifestyles of the younger generation and families.

So far, about 4.4 million people have responded to the questionnaire. As many as 88 percent said they learnt about sex on their own and had never talked to their parents about it.

Tony Leung, a Hong Kong actor who recently posed for a revealing swimwear photo together with his two adult daughters, was praised by young people as "very open about sex education".

Nearly 40 percent surveyed said they kissed on their first date, with the most successful cases being from Hong Kong.

Ella Chen, one of the three members of the popular Taiwanese girl singing group S.H.E, said she and her husband didn't kiss on their first date, and, in fact, this came quite a bit later. "I'm a restrained person, so it was my future husband who initiated the first kiss," she told an interviewer on the TV program.

The survey also covered other aspects of modern life. Chen's best friend and fellow group member Selina Jen was accidentally burnt during a rehearsal in October 2010, suffering burns on 54 percent of her body. Two years later, she returned to the stage and was widely praised for her positive attitude toward life.

When asked whether they would consider having a facelift, 92 percent of respondents said they had not because they thought it was "not normal."

About eight percent said they had received facial plastic surgery, with the most cases in the northeast Chinese provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning.

Christine Fan, a Chinese American singer, denied the rumor that she had received cosmetic surgery, saying "girls should be self-restrained and confident, and don't have to keep up with fashion all the time."
