Thousands of Shanghai citizens gathered in Longhua Funeral Home this morning, paying tribute to two young firefighters who fell from a high building and died while putting out a fire on May 1.

The remains of the deceased, 23-year-old Qian Lingyun and 20-year-old Liu Jie, were put in the middle of the No.1 memorial hall of the funeral home, while families, colleagues and citizens walked up one by one to put flowers beside them.

Parents of the two men were crying during the memorial service, and Liu's fainted several times.

The two men have been honored as Revolutionary Martyrs, Communist Party Members and given the Top-grade Merit Citation, as well as the "Shanghai May 4th Youth Medal", officials announced at the funeral.
