Chinese health authorities stressed on Thursday that no Ebola-related experiments may be conducted in the country without government approval.

Virus nurturing and animal infection tests must be conducted in labs with biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) standards, added the National Health and Family Planning Commission, in a move aimed at strengthening guards against the virus, which has claimed more than 1,000 lives in West Africa.

Waste from Ebola experiments must be sterilized before being disposed of, and packaging and transportation of Ebola samples should be done according to first-class standards, the commission also warned.
