A coal mine explosion killed 11 people in southwest China's Guizhou Province Thursday morning, local authorities said.

The accident happened in Songlin coal mine in Songhe Town of Pan County. When the mine exploded, 19 people were working underground and eight of them managed to survive.

The rescue is still ongoing and the cause of the explosion is being investigated.

The mine explosion was reported one day after a coal mine fire killed 26 workers in northeast China's Liaoning Province.
