A 78-year-old woman managed to survive seven days and nights by only licking water off a rock after she slipped into a 20-meter-deep hole in Dazhou, Southwest China's Sichuan province, Chengdu Economic Daily reported on Thursday.

The deep hole is a funnel-shaped subterraneous karst cave which is rich in oxygen at the bottom, said a researcher with the local Land and Resources Bureau. The old lady did not suffer serious injury when she fell down and received sufficient oxygen at the bottom of the hole.
