Famous Chinese food chain stores Xiabuxiabu and Little Sheep are reported to have been selling cheap pig blood as duck blood.

The incident comes after World Consumer Rights Day was celebrated at the weekend. The day is a time of intensive investigations and exposures of consumer rights violations in China.

According to the investigation, the price of pig blood in the markets of Beijing is half the price of the duck blood. And much of the duck blood sold in Beijing is actually made from cheap pig blood along with other ingredients.

Hearing the news, relevant stores have stopped selling the products and promised to make a thorough investigation of the incident.

Further investigation suggests that some of the "duck blood" sold on roadside stalls was also found to contain excessive amounts of Formaldehyde. Formaldehyde, a highly poisonous and cancer-leading chemical, was added to the "duck blood" to keep it fresh and looking good.

Experts advise consumers that seafood including duck blood should be put into water for several hours before cooking and should be cooked thoroughly.
