Zhao Liping, also a former deputy chairman of the Inner Mongolia Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) -- a post he took after working for 30 years in the public security system, was detained on March 20 in Chifeng City for killing a woman with whom he had an intimate relationship.

The People's Procuratorate of Chifeng's Hongshan District approved the arrest, ordering local police to continue investigating if Zhao was in unlawful possession of guns.

No details of the murder case have been disclosed.

Zhao, 64, acted as regional police chief from 2005 and 2010. He was elected deputy chairman of the CPPCC Inner Mongolia Regional Committee in 2012.
