A Chinese-American doctor facing sexual charges in the United States was caught by alert police at Shanghai Pudong International Airport after he flew into the city on a fake passport.

Haohua Yang, a 50-year-old Illinois-based doctor, landed in Shanghai on an United Airlines flight UA835 from Chicago. He travelled on a Chinese passport that carried the surname Sun.

He "fainted" while walking through the corridor leading to the arrivals area at the airport. A police officer spotted him and he was rushed to the nearby Chuansha Hospital.

During investigation, police discovered the real story of Yang and found that he was charged in the US with three sex-related crimes against his patients.

Yang used all his medical experience to good use on arriving at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. He gulped down phentamine pills, an appetite suppressant that causes weakness and fatigue, that led him to "faint." When a police officer found him, he had "blood" on his lips which later turned out to be a red pigment.

Before fainting, however, Yang had flushed down his fake passport in the toilet.

Cornered, Yang revealed the truth about his plans to sneak into the country on a fake passport.

He told the police his real name and said he used another person's passport to travel because he had no time to apply for a Chinese visa. He destroyed the passport because he feared he would be caught at the immigration.

When police did a background check on Haohua Yang, they were shocked to find that he had been charged with felony in the US.

Yang, whose pictures were splashed on several websites that carried stories of his crimes, admitted he had devised the plot to escape punishment in the US. He was banned from leaving the US but managed to dodge the Chicago airport authorities and travel abroad.

Yang was deported on another United Airlines flight UA836 on Saturday after the hospital confirmed he was fit enough to travel again.

In US, Kendall County authorities had charged the doctor from Naperville in December with sexually abusing and assaulting three patients between 2012 to 2014 at his Yorkville practice.
