The incident happened at around 4 p.m. on the National Highway 210 in Chongqing when a policeman saw a motorbike swerving on the road.

The police then stopped the vehicle and found the rider was a monk who appeared to be drunk and his breath had a strong smell of alcohol.

The policeman checked the blood alcohol level of the monk and found that it reached up to 42 mg/100ml, more than two times the legal limit.

The monk surnamed Luo confessed he had drank 2 bottles of beer (a violation of Buddhist's doctrine) after attending a religious rite of a family and said he was planning to drive back to his temple in Chongqing. However, to his surprise, he became intoxicated on the road.

The police said religious people also should obey the law and be responsible for their misbehavior. The authority issued Luo a 180-day driver's license suspension and a fine of 1,000 yuan.
