Guan Dong, a 24-year-old diver, was praised by Premier Li Keqiang for his rescue of a male survivor from the shipwreck on the Yangtze River.

The young diver gave his scuba equipment to the survivor after finding him stuck in the hull of the capsized ship. Both of them managed to swim to the shore through murky waters.

Premier Li, who was leading the rescue effort onsite, spoke highly of Guan's heroic deed, saying, "It is marvelous to give hope to others while facing danger himself."

Li thanked Guan and other divers, who have pushed themselves to their limits in hours of stressful rescue operations. He also advised the divers to show regard for their own safety.

Fourteen people have been rescued and seven are confirmed dead more than 24 hours after a passenger ship carrying 456 people capsized in China's Yangtze River. More than 400 passengers remain unaccounted for.
