In the popular Chinese story "Carrying Thorned Grass and Pleading Guilty” from the Warring States period, an old general strapped brambles to his bare back and begged for forgiveness from the chief minister. On Wednesday, a man in Chongqing took a leaf out of his book and begged for his girlfriend's forgiveness in the same way, dfic reported on Thursday.

The boyfriend, who is an undergraduate of a college in Chongqing, was spotted on Wednesday kneeling on the ground in front of a dormitory building for female students at the campus, while carrying brambles on his back, in order to suggest that he was prepared to receive a beating as punishment.

The photos of the scene, which was taken by an onlooker using his cell phone, have gone viral online.
