Japanese casual wear retailer Uniqlo Co., Ltd. was caught in a shocking controversy on early Wednesday as a man and a woman appeared online in a sex tape filmed in one of the company's stores in Beijing.

As Chinese people checked their microblogs and the Chinese instant messaging app Wechat, they were shocked to find the keyword "Uniqlo" appearing everywhere. After most of the screen grabs and video links had been deleted, people eventually discovered a sex tape had been uploaded to the Internet, which went viral in the early morning on Wednesday.

In the viral video and photos, a man and a naked woman were pictured having sex in the fitting room of the Uniqlo store in Sanlitun, Beijing. The man shot the video himself, which was uploaded to social networks platforms. But the identity of the person who uploaded the video is not yet known.

Some Internet users even questioned whether the video was a form of commercial hype masterminded by Uniqlo.

Uniqlo, the Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer, released a statement later on Wednesday that they have paid serious attention to the incident and complained to the relevant media platforms immediately.

Uniqlo denied the incident was masterminded by the company's strategic marketing team, and advised consumers to properly use fitting rooms and obey the public moral and social codes.

Beijing police also said they had received reports from citizens about the incident and were monitoring it closely. The police have now started to investigate the case.
