Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated the leading role of state-owned enterprises in the country's economic reform.

He made the remarks during an inspection tour to a plant of the newly merged high-speed rail maker CRRC in Changchun.

President Xi portrays China's self-developed high-speed trains as a new symbol of the country's manufacturing capacity.

"I've been to many countries over the past years. Most agreements we've signed were related to high-speed rail. The signing of the project that links Moscow and Kazan was witnessed by myself and President Vladimir Putin. I hope that you continue with your innovations, and make new achievements, leading the development of the country's manufacturing industry."

During a tour to a clutch maker, President Xi Jinping called on all state-owned firms to improve risk control capability while seeking to expand profits.

"State-owned enterprises play a leading role in the country's economic development. We should be confident of the way these companies operate. During the deepening of reforms, the SOEs should take into account both the characteristics of our country and market principles, while preventing rash decisions."

The president also notes the role of innovation in pushing forward with a new-type of industrialization in the sector.
