It is reported that from 2006 to 2015, there have been at least 20 cases in which children were accidentally locked inside parked vehicles across China, causing 15 deaths, of which five happened this year.

Zhang Shuqin, a deputy to the National People's Congress says that increasing public awareness of children protection in conventionally considered safe environment is imperative for the whole society.

Zhang suggests school and kindergartens invite specialists to impart self-protection and self-rescue knowledge to children and parents.

Qin Xiyan, director of a law firm in Central China's Hunan Province stresses that improving the child protection awareness needs multiple efforts not just from parents but also from the government, media and even judicial organs.

Qin, also an NPC deputy believes that China's laws need to be amended to prohibit children under 12 years old being left at home or inside vehicles alone to protect their safety.

So far, several Chinese provinces, including Jilin, Henan and Henan, have enacted their own regulations concerning children's safety inside vehicles.
