China has become the third largest country worldwide, following the United States and Brazil, in plastic surgery and now accounts for 12.7 percent of operations in the world, reports say.

According to new research, the compound annual growth rate of its medical cosmetology industry will maintain a steady proportion of some 13.8 percent up to 2018, when patient spending will total US$ 9.1 billion.

Thanks to high return and high profit, plastic surgery has become a new area of wealth-creation in the medical industry, attracting more and more capital to the market.

In 2005, CIIT Group purchased Huangzhou Plastic Surgery Hospital, separating it into CIIT Hangzhou Plastic Surgery Hospital and CIIT Hangzhou Hand Surgery Hospital in 2012.

In 2013, Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group purchased equity in an Israeli company AlmaLasers, Ltd.

Some Chinese pharmaceutical companies have also begun to take part in the plastic surgery support industry. Beijing SL PHARM started to produce hyaluronic acid, that can increase suppleness in joints, while Zhongyuan Union Cell & Gene Engineering Corporation, Ltd. began to explore stem cell cosmetology.

Experts hope that listed companies access to the plastic surgery market will promote the entire industry become more standardized and develop more smoothly.
