Gu Qiao, who was formerly a conjoined twin, paid a visit to the doctors who were responsable for his risky separation surgery 18 years ago and thanked them for giving him a second chance.

After 20 days of research and preparation, on Nov. 11, 1996, doctors were able to conduct the 10-hour-long dissociated surgery for the conjoined babies. After the surgery was deemed a success, the parents named the twins Gu Xin and Gu Qiao in honor of Xin Qiao Hospital.

Despite their success, the elder brother of the twins, Gu Xin, died of cardiamorphia less than a month after the surgery but Gu Qiao has luckily survived.

In Gu Qiao's eyes, he is no different from anyone else, except that he sometimes suffers from trouble with his intestines.

This year, Gu Qiao passed the college entrance examination, with a high score of 603 points to enter the Sichuan Foreign Studies University. "I get the courage from my mother, who has suffered from breast cancer," Gu said, " I know that only through my hard working can help my mother get better recovery."

Gu Qiao has set a goal for himself to become a volunteer of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and by doing so, realize his dream of making more people knowledgeable about China.
