A man was stopped by police for having a gun in his back pocket…which turned out to be his phone.

The man in Taoyuan, Taiwan was stopped by six police while he was going shopping because of a protruding object in his back pocket which looked like a gun on Sunday, United Daily News reported.

When the man took out the "pistol" at the police station, it turned out to be a phone case which looks nearly identical to a semi-automatic pistol.The man was later released by the police.

It is not clear who manufactured the case, but it has been sold online by various retailers at prices from about $5 to $49 and comes in several different colors, according to CNN.

Critics say that the cases could be taken as the real deal by law enforcement and that potentially deadly encounters could take place.
