Traffic cops in Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province recently came up with a creative way to punish those who break traffic rules.

Violators of traffic regulations were asked to wear green vests and caps and help traffic police direct traffic and supervise pedestrians.

Since the measure was implemented on August 3, a total of 9,511 were punished by the traffic police within a week.

After analyzing data collected from group, the Shenzhen police created a Zodiac sign chart for them.

According to the Shenzhen police, Libras, Virgos as well as Scorpios came up to the top three zodiac signs among all the jaywalkers accounting for 10.5%, 9.93% and 9%, respectively. Arieses and Tauruses have the least number of people violating traffic rules.

The police also selected 99 people who break traffic laws most frequently and found that among them, the Zodiac signs of 19 people were Virgo, 10 of them were Capricorns, and there are also 10 Libras, 9 Cancers, 9 Pisceses, 8 Sagittariuses, 8 Aquariuses, 6 Arieses, 6 Tauruses, 6 Geminis, 5 Leos as well as 3 Scorpios.

The charts aroused heated debates among netizens. Some believed the chart was totally unnecessary and there was no scientific evidence for it. Other also said that the police should make a Chinese Zodiac chart for the jaywalkers and see which animals had the most jaywalkers.

However, the police responded that all the information was based on ID cards of the jaywalkers. It was not difficult to collect the Zodiac signs of the jaywalkers and make the chart. The intention for the chart was also very simple, and there was no particular meaning for it. The media and netizens could interpret the chart on the basis of their own understanding.
