The test on Monday marks the completion of the ground testing for the rocket and conclusion of the research work on the rocket.

"The next step is going to the launch site. The production will be carried out in due schedule to prepare for the maiden flight next year," said Lou Luliang, deputy chief designer of Long March-5, with China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology.

The rocket uses liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen as fuel.

Lou said the rocket is significant for China's future space exploration projects.

"The Long March-5 is the country's new generation of carrier rocket. The aim of its design is heavy thrust, zero toxin and pollution. It will serve to the country's follow-up space projects, such as the Lunar Exploration program, the manned space station, as well as the survey of deep space in the future."

The Long March-5 carrier rocket has the largest carrying capacity under development in China.
