Centered around the theme of "disciplining the party: the responsibility of the party," this event is the first of its kind held by the CPC since its 18th national congress in 2012.

"As the ruling party in China for more than 60 years, the CPC faces challenges of a lack of supervision and the growth of bureaucratic and resilient corruption," said Wang Jiarui, vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference who heads the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, during the opening ceremony. "The CPC has to resolve these problems with self-reformation, self-purification and self-discipline. We have done this and will continue to do it. But we need your help to build clean and effective politics while cracking down on corruption," he told the audience.

He has also invited the participants to do some field trips in addition to indoor meetings during their stay in order to have a full picture of China's development and comprehensive understanding of China's economic slowdown.

In the past three years, the CPC has attracted global attention concerning its anti-corruption work and tightening of intra-Party system discipline and organization. The party hopes to facilitate experienced cooperation between the world and CPC, while responding to external concerns about the CPC's endeavors to build an honest and clean government and combat corruption through the dialogue.

During the four-day dialogue, participants will discuss and jointly seek solutions to universal problems such as how to fight against corruption, how to build political parties, how to enhance state governance and build a global corruption prevention network.

The dialogue is sponsored by China's Center for Contemporary World Studies, or the CCCWS, and the International Cooperation Department of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the CCDI of the CPC.

Thabo Mbeki, South African ex-president and former president of the African National Congress as well as Kevin Rudd, twice prime minister of Australia, together with Massimo D'Alema, the former Italian prime minister and president of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, and Huang Shuxian, deputy secretary of the CCDI and minister of supervision attended and delivered the keynote speeches at the opening ceremony.
