The deputy minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development Lu Kehua says.

new climate-resilient urban designs have become crucial as China has experienced more extreme weather events due to global warming in recent years.

Many Chinese cities are struggling to upgrade their storm water removal and flood control systems to avoid large floods in urban areas.

The recent slowdown in the Chinese economy has also prompted economic experts and analysts to look for alternative, sustainable models of growth.

Investing in eco-friendly construction projects such as building sponge cities have been identified as a new area for long-term investments.
