A three-year old boy in central China was discharged from the hospital yesterday after miraculously surviving an eight floor fall, local website Rednet.cn reported.

In the early morning on Oct. 1, the boy fell from the balcony window of his parents' apartment in a community in Dingcheng District, Changde City in Hunan Province. He was left at home unattended when the accident happened.

At about 8:00 a.m., a neighbor on the seventh floor, heard a loud thump outside the window and found that the boy had already fallen down. He was hissing but in stable condition when people went to check on him, a witness said.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital after the fall. Doctors found that he had sustained bruises on his skin and internal organs, but was not seriously injured. Nevertheless, he was held for observation in the hospital for 10 days.

The boy was apparently saved by the quilt his neighbor hung outside the window downstairs and his soft landing spot -- a lawn.

His parents installed security bars outside the window after the accident.
