The Asian Political Parties' Special Conference on the Silk Road is to be held within the framework of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, a multilateral forum launched in 2000 that sought to play a positive role in promoting peace and development in Asia. In recent years, Special Conferences were seen to be active in exchanging and sharing experiences on poverty reduction and disaster prevention, among other priority issues in the region.

The "Belt and Road Initiative," abbreviation for the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, has been greeted with openness and enthusiasm by countries since it was proposed some two years ago. The Special Conference is essentially the CPC’s as well as the Chinese government's latest effort to boost ties with major political parties in those countries, in a bid to seek common prosperity.

Guo Yezhou, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), the Special Conference's organizer, expressed optimism that the conference will be "pragmatic and efficient," and also "instrumental in deepening party-to-party exchanges and cooperation" in Asia and along the Belt and Road.

"The three-day discussions will help to organize better agreements concerning development and facilitate the exchange of ideas between people from different countries. Moreover, we will propose a draft of the 'Beijing Initiative,' to be deliberated and ideally passed by all participants," said Guo on Tuesday, at the press briefing of the Special Conference.

He added that seeking political guarantees in order to shape a soft, benign regional environment for common development is a target for the conference.
