An exhibition and a forum marking the 100th wedding anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of China's democratic revolution, and his wife Madame Soong Ching Ling were held at Madame Soong’s former residence in Beijing on Oct. 25.

The China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), organizer of the event, published two commemorative postcards -one featuring the couple’s wedding photo (R) and another being a photocopy of Dr. Sun’s written couplet (L) for his wife, which can be translated into “With absolute sincerity and oneness, we share joy and sorrow; with pre-destined deep love, we go through life and death” - on the exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of their marriage on Oct. 25. The exhibition, reflecting Madame Soong’s life and her romance with Dr. Sun, featured many rarely-seen antiques, such as her collection of Dr. Sun’s literary works, her favorite music scores, as well as several pieces of qipao, the body-hugging one-piece Chinese traditional dress and cosmetics used by Madame Soong.

China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), organizer of the event, also published two commemorative postcards, one featuring the couple’s wedding photo and another a photocopy of Dr. Sun’s written couplet for his wife translated as “With absolute sincerity and oneness, we share joy and sorrow; with pre-destined deep love, we go through life and death.”

Hu Qili and Jing Dunquan, chairman and vice chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, cut the ribbon for the ceremony and toured the exhibition.

During the forum, several guests shared their thoughts on the couple’s “sincere marriage and pre-destined love” arising from historical and social responsibilities in a time of tremendous change in China.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and Madame Soong Ching Ling married on Oct. 25, 1915 when Sun was forced into exile after a failed attempt at building a democratic republic in the tumultuous years following the collapse of China’s ancient imperial system.
