China's oldest Olympic athlete Guo Jie died on Sunday at 103 in Xi'an, capital city of northwestern China's Shaanxi Province.

Guo, the national champion who set a discus national record in 1935, represented China in 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin but failed to make the discus final.

Born in January 1912, Guo had been a multi-sport athlete in high school and was inspired to attend the Olympics after hearing about Liu Changchun's participation in the 1932 Summer Games.

After returning from the Olympics, Guo became a researcher and coach in the Xi'an Physical Education University. Guo continued his work long after his official retirement in 1987. He also carried the Olympic torch before the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In 2012, Guo turned 100, and was still able to do daily exercise for two hours. He also published a lot of books on sports training and healthy living.
