Three people were injured in a gas explosion at a residential building in west Beijing's Shijingshan district which occurred at 6:10 pm Monday, authorities said.

The district government said on Sina Weibo that the explosion happened in the home of one family in the building. Gas has been shut and residents evacuated.

According to pictures posted on social media, many windows in the six-story building were shattered. Eyewitnesses said they could feel the shockwave from the explosion, which also set cars parked nearby on fire.

Further investigation is under way.
