A "Chinese Grottoes" cultural exhibition is going to be held in the United States next year.

Entitled "The Buddhist Art of the Silk Road of China," the exhibition will replicate the caves of the famed Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu province.

It will be the first time simulations of the caves will be fully displayed in the US.

The Mogao Caves are well known for their preservation of ancient Buddhist sculptures and artworks dating back thousands of years.

The Grottoes were listed as World Cultural Heritage sites in 1987.

Three caves from the 3rd to 9th centuries will be duplicated in full-size, and work on that project is to be completed by the end of the year.

The exhibition will be held at the Getty Center in Los Angeles from May to September.

The Getty Research Institute has been working with Chinese institutions on researching and repairing the Grottoes since the 1990s.
