The number "123456" retained top place on the list of 25 worst passwords last year, followed by "password" and "12345678," according to SplashData, a provider of security applications and services.

Despite growing concerns over cybersecurity, people still use simple passwords that can put them at great risk, the report said.

It noted "123456" has been at the top of the list of worst passwords since 2011.

Newcomer bad passwords last year appear to have been inspired by the recent release of the movie blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with "starwars," "solo" and "princess" making their first appearance on the list.

The company says the list was compiled with information from more than two million leaked passwords over the course of 2015. It also calls on users to increase password strength and complexity to avoid online risk.
