At a press conference on Jan. 19, Zhuhai Port Authority announced that “the current port shutdown is progressing smoothly. Its passenger flow only accounts for 0.57 percent of the total Zhuhai-Macao passenger flow. Whether Wanzai Port will be reopen or be rebuilt remains unknown. More importantly, an undersea tunnel connecting Shizimen Central Business District to Macao is planned."

Shi Yangchun, spokesperson of Zhuhai General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection said: “Founded in 1984, Wanzai Port’s joint inspection shed and offices are in a state of disrepair. In 2015, the clearance number reached 744,000, occupying only 0.57 percent of the total Zhuhai-Macao passenger flow. The shutdown of Wanzai Port won’t make much difference to the Zhuhai-Macao port passenger clearance."
