Two-wheeled electric bicycles will be banned from ten streets in Beijing, including Chang'an Street and Fuyou Street, starting from April 11, 2016.

Riders flouting the new rule will be fined 20 yuan (about $3 USD).

Anyone refusing to pay the fine, will have their bicycles confiscated by the police.

At present there are 4 million two-wheeled electric bicycles in Beijing. The majority, however, do not meet bicycle registration standards.

It has been reported there were 31,404 accidents involving two-wheeled electric bicycles last year, in which 113 people were killed, and 21,423 others were injured.
