Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced the winners of the 2015 China Habitat Environment Award. Hengqin's underground pipeline project and the Community Sports Park of Xiangzhou District in southern China's Zhuhai city were both selected.

A total of 31 projects were chosen as winners and the two winning projects of Guangdong Province both came from Zhuhai.

The 33.4-kilometer-long and 3.4-meter-high multiuse pipeline has now become a national model for other cities. As China's longest and largest complete underground pipeline, it has saved 400,000 square meters of land, directly generating 8 billion yuan.

Equipped with three monitoring centers, the pipeline project covers water supply, sewage disposal, waste disposal, communications cables, heating and gas. It is the first project of its kind in China and is something rarely seen even in developed countries. Although the one-off construction costs are higher, the subsequent advantages are significant.

Furthermore, the Community Sports Park of Xiangzhou District in southern China's Zhuhai city has brought the public closer to nature. Xiangzhou District, together with the Zhuhai municipal government, has been developing idle land and underutilized hillside since 2012 and has decided to build 132 community sports parks within five years.

So far, there are 58 finished parks and 33 parks under construction, all with the name of Community Sports Park of Xiangzhou District. The largest one covers an area of 80,000 square meters and the smallest covers less than 1,000 square meters. All of the parks are open to the public for free.
