A Chinese national who had been in prison in Russia has been transferred back to China to finish his sentence, according to the Ministry of Justice.

The convict, identified as Cui, was fined and sentenced to five years in prison for bribery by a Russian district court in 2013. A second trial upheld the initial ruling, the ministry said in a statement released on Thursday.

Cui will continue to serve his sentence in China according to a bilateral treaty on convict transfers.

Since 1997, China has transferred 80 foreign convicts to their native countries. Cui is the first Chinese convict to be returned to China.
