Jinan police began their operation in early April, after the mobile app of Qilu Evening News, a mainstream newspaper in the region, reported that some 200 thousand pieces of children's information in Jinan have been sold in package, with one piece worth only between 10 and 20 cents.

The first suspect, surnamed Ye, was held in late April, with the help of police in Chengdu in southwest China. Ye admitted that he profited from information he stole from the hard disks of relevant institutions. He achieved this via a corporate computer-related software he purchased online.

Police said the second and third suspects, both surnamed Su, were involved in obtaining and selling passwords of vaccination system or personal information, including that of children, by hacking.

The fourth suspect, surnamed Chen, was involved in selling children's information online by means of instant message software.

Reports say local police have vowed to strengthen measure to better cope with such cases.
