A 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit a county in southwest China's Yunnan Province in the early hours of Wednesday, with no casualties reported so far.

The quake struck Yunlong County, Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Dali, at 12:48 a.m., causing cracks to appear in building walls, according to the provincial civil affairs department.

The authorities have allocated 200 tents, 2,000 quilts and 2,000 suits of clothes to the affected region.

Although precise losses are being calculated, an assessment conducted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs' disaster reduction center based on the structures' durability estimated that the quake would have damaged about 2,000 houses.

Yunlong has a low population density of 47 people per square km. Local buildings are mainly made of brick and concrete, as well as wood and tiles.
