Two American citizens smashed a bar in Nanluoguxiang, a popular tourist site in Beijing, according to a local newspaper.

An American man and woman, whose names have not been disclosed, walked into a bar on the night of July 25 and sat at separate tables, according to Mr. Ye, the owner of the bar. A little while later, the woman rose up and shoved the bar's musical instruments to the ground. She also snatched a glass from another table and threw it at the counter, according to the newspaper. A waiter who tried to prevent the woman was scratched on the arms and slapped in the face by her, the paper said. The woman then quarreled with her companion. The two tried to run away twice, but were brought back by the servers.

The smashing cost the bar nearly 10,000 yuan (about US$1,500), estimated the owner. Mr. Ye, who does not speak English and does not know why the woman smashed his bar.

The local police are investigating the incident, the newspaper said.
